This week, the NTEU wrote to the Chancellor outlining our concerns about the job cuts, and asking for a meeting to discuss these further. Support Qantas Workers
When: 5pm, Tuesday November 22
Where: Angel Place Recital Hall, 2-12 Angel Place (near cnr George St)
Alan Joyce, CEO of Qantas, will be speaking at Angel Place Recital Hall tomorrow. He has been invited to do so as part of UNSW’s “Meet the CEO” Series.
In response, a rally has been called in support of Qantas workers. NTEU members, and members from other unions, will be gathering at the entrance to the meeting from 5pm. We are calling on all supporters of Qantas staff to attend.
As NTEU members would be aware, the Transport Workers Union (TWU), The Licensed Aircraft Engineers Union (ALAEA) and the Pilots Association (APIA) have each been struggling with Qantas management for reasonable pay increases, job security and improved conditions for many months.
Fair Work Australia recently determined that social and community sector workers are underpaid and that this is because most staff in this field are women. It was an important win, but FWA has not yet made a ruling that actually mandates better pay.
Across the country today social and community sector workers and their allies from many unions, cluding the NTEU, rallied to demand that the government fund fair pay in their sector.

A terrific 10,000 people marched to Parliament House in yesterday's 'Say Yes' rally in Canberra. NTEU members were part of a strong union representation calling on government to put a price on pollution. Here are some great photos!
