   <p>Professor Steven Schwartz</p> <p>Vice-Chancellor, Macquarie University, NSW</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Dear Prof. Schwartz,</p> <p>As a student at Macquarie University, I am writing to express my concerns that the budget cuts proposed for 2012 at this University will substantially decrease the quality of my education. I am especially concerned by plans to:</p> <p>1. abolish or severely curtail tutorials across entire departments and courses, since tutorials are integral to my learning in any subject.</p> <p>2. significantly increase student numbers in those few tutorials that will remain&nbsp; &ndash; with proposals for 150 or more students in a single tutorial in some cases.</p> <p>3. substantially cut teaching staff, which will make it much harder to access staff for consultation and feedback.</p> <p>Since I enrolled in the University with the expectation that it would provide a thorough teaching schedule with <strong>regular tutorials</strong> and <strong>accessible staff</strong>, I request that you restore funding to academic teaching departments to prevent these severe and unprecedented cuts to the quality of education at Macquarie University.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Yours Sincerely,</p>
