Back to Charles Sturt University
Dear members,
We are waiting confirmation of the signed Enterprise Agreement for CSU. Management have assured us that there are no impediments to this final step and that they have been busy with the other activities necessary for final registration and implementation of the agreement.
This process requires CSU to inform all staff through a series of workplace information sessions which begin today on the 5th July 2010. The final Agreement has also to be posted on the university website for staff to examine. This will be followed by a ballot of all staff, the details of which are being finalised. When the agreement has been certified by Fair Work Australia, it and all its clauses will come into effect, which may be in late July/early August.
The NTEU has sought clarification on how the academic workload provisions will take effect in Session 2, 2010. We are pursuing the enactment of the provisions of the clause ahead of the certification date, much like the last union-negotatied pay rise was introduced ahead of certification. Management are in urgent discussions on this matter and will respond to us asap. They are also discussing information to be provided to Heads of Schools on what this will mean for workload management. We will keep members abreast of developments as they come to hand. Given the results of the 2010 Climate Survey and the resounding cry from CSU staff for relief from excessive workloads, we hope this will be soon.
We urge all members to attend the CSU HR information sessions, despite the short notice given. It will benefit us all if we are aware and familiar with the content of the agreement so as to be sensitive to our rights and conditions. The NTEU CSU Branch is planning for information and planning sessions for the implementation of various clauses in the new agreement, and the success of the whole agreement will be deepened and broadened if we prosecute the best application of the protections and benefits of the agreement. Member involvement in this is vital but need not take up a lot of time.
Queries about the working of the agreement should be taken to the CSU HR information sessions in the first instance.
Clauses and commentary on many key aspects of the Agreement are available on the NTEU website at:
