CDU Staff to Vote on New Enterprise Agreement - NTEU Encourages Staff to Vote "Yes"
Posted 21 July 2011 by Tony Gilding (NT Division)
The proposed new Enterprise Agreement at Charles Darwin University will be going to a ballot of staff for approval. The ballot period will be from Monday 25 July 2011 until 4pm on Thursday 4 August 2011.
NTEU encourages all staff to vote “Yes” in support of the new Agreement.
The proposed Agreement includes a range of improvements which have been achieved by the Union. The CDU Enterprise Agreement will deliver the following competitive salary increases during the life of the Agreement (which will expire on 30 June 2013):
- 1.5% salary increase backdated to 1 December 2010 (already paid)
- 1.5% increase to VET and Higher Education salaries (to be paid on successful outcome of ballot)
- 2.% increase to General Staff salaries (to be paid on successful outcome of ballot)
- 2% increase applied at 1 November 2011
- 2% increase applied at 1 May 2011
- 2% increase applied at 1 November 2012
- 4% increase applied at 30 June 2013.
These increases will be supplemented by additional increases associated with the salary scale unification of the academic classification levels to incorporate VET teachers.
Other improvements made to the Agreement include:
- Better workload regulation for academic and general staff.
- The proper regulation of fixed term employment to ensure that this form of employment is only used in legitimate circumstances.
- Staff employed on a fixed term contract will now have a right in certain circumstances to receive an offer of further employment where the University decides to continue the fixed term contract position.
- Extensive and enforceable general staff classification procedures.
- Improved Indigenous employment clause through the operation of the Indigenous Employment Attraction and Retention Strategy.
- Establishment of at least 8 Early Career Development Fellowships including one specifically designated for Indigenous staff members. These Fellowships are designed to promote a pathway to more secure employment for long-term casual staff.
- Separate pay for marking for casual academic staff.
The NTEU is very pleased to endorse this Agreement and thanks all members for their support and activism to achieve these new improvements.
