Academic Bargaining Update - Management Walkout!

Posted 11 April 2011 by Sarah Hafez (University of Wollongong)

Today, your academic bargaining team met with management and we were shocked by the management team’s refusal to discuss our job security clause.  Instead they walked out of the meeting.

The NTEU clause aims to improve job security by limiting the circumstances in which fixed-term employment can be offered and provides for conversion for fixed-term employees.  A very similar clause is already in the current enterprise agreement.  Since the end of work choices 32 universities have made agreements that limit the use of fixed term employment.

With Academic Bargaining now entering its third year it is disheartening that Management continues to undermine our Bargaining efforts, especially given indications of some progress being made at our last meeting.  It’s time Management got serious about an Agreement for Academic Staff at the University of Wollongong.

Your team needs your support.

We encourage members to attend the general meeting of members at 12:30pm Wednesday 20 April in room 67.107 to have your say on how we can finalise bargaining.
