AEU Campaign for better schools funding

Posted 16 February 2012 by Catherine Kirkman (Tas Division)

In 2011, the government conducted both a review of higher education funding (the Base Funding Review) and of schools funding (the Gonski Review).  While consultations are continuing on the Base Funding Review into higher education, the Gonski Review response is imminent.

The following message from Susan Hopgood, the Australian Education Union’s Federal Secretary, is seeking your support to raise the profile of schools funding ahead of the government’s response.

Dear Colleague,

It’s now only a matter of weeks before the release of the Gonksi review of school funding and the Federal Government’s response.

To send a strong message to the Government the Union joined with the national parents’ group the Australian Council of State School Organisations (ACSSO) for a final campaign and advertising blitz.

A national tour started  in Brisbane this week with a campaign bus that will be visiting schools for meetings and forums with parents and teachers –  You can find out more here.

It’s a critical time and we need your help to make sure the politicians know exactly how important it is that they invest more in public schools.

Please email the Prime Minister Julia Gillard today and let her know what a difference more funding would make for your school.

Your support in the campaign so far is making a difference.

Please share information about this final campaign phase with your colleagues and friends  and encourage them to follow our campaign activities on facebook.com/forourfuture and to email the Prime Minister. The more emails that are sent the more pressure we will build for additional funding for our schools.

We hope you will join in any activities that take place in your local area.

 Thanks again for your support.

 Susan
